Oman Flour Mills signs MoU with Najd to enhance sustainable agricultural production

Muscat - Vision

Oman Flour Mills Company and Al Najd Agricultural Development Company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at establishing a cooperative framework focused on enhancing sustainable agricultural production of millet and other grains with high nutritional value.

This memorandum is part of the national strategies aimed at promoting sustainable agriculture and developing the agricultural sectors in the Sultanate of Oman.

The memorandum seeks to enhance joint efforts between the two parties to conduct integrated research to assess the technical, environmental and financial feasibility of growing millet and other grains with high nutritional value, as millet is an essential part of food security in the region. It is a crop that is characterized by its resistance to drought and its ability to grow in difficult climatic conditions, making it an ideal choice to meet agricultural challenges in the Sultanate of Oman.

Dr. Tariq bin Musa Al Zadjali, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Najd Agricultural Development Company, said: “This MoU is an important step towards achieving our common goals in enhancing sustainable agricultural production. We look forward to working with Oman Flour Mills Company to develop the cultivation of millet and other grains with high nutritional value and achieve economic and environmental benefits.”

Al-Zadjali stressed the importance of scientific research in improving the quality of crops and increasing their productivity, adding: “We aim to provide innovative solutions that contribute to enhancing the cultivation of millet and other grains and providing sustainable food sources for the community.”

Haitham bin Mohammed Al Fanah, CEO of Oman Flour Mills Company, highlighted the importance of this partnership in enhancing national food security, saying: “We believe that cooperation with Al Najd Company will enable us to achieve tangible results in the field of millet cultivation and other grains with high nutritional value, which will contribute to supporting local farmers and enhancing the sustainability of the agricultural sector in Oman.” Al Fanah explained that this initiative reflects the company’s commitment to supporting farmers by providing the necessary training and resources to achieve high productivity.

This initiative comes at a time of increasing interest in food security in the Sultanate of Oman, as the government seeks to achieve self-sufficiency and boost local production. National strategies focus on improving the efficiency of agricultural production and providing support to farmers through training and awareness programs.

This partnership is expected to contribute to achieving positive results that benefit the Omani society and economy, enhancing the Sultanate’s ability to meet future challenges in the field of food security and agricultural sustainability.

This memorandum is also considered a new beginning for a strategic partnership aimed at achieving sustainable development in the agricultural sector, reflecting Oman Vision 2040 in enhancing food security and achieving self-sufficiency
