Muscat – The Oman Flour Mills Company (OFMC) is expediting the construction of its much-anticipated animal feed production facility in Muttrah in Muscat governorate.
According to official inputs, 70% of the facility stands completed today, with a commitment to bolstering food security and fostering local production capabilities.
“Initiated in November 2022, the plant is now in its advanced stages. Key components of the feed mill are already in place, and our premixing unit is nearing final tests to align with production standards,” said Haitham Mohamed al Fannah, CEO, Oman Flour Mills Company.
The project – which seeks to harness local raw materials, refining them into high-quality animal feed products – is slated for an October 2023 completion, Fannah informed.
“This timeline (November-October) is a testament to the dedication of the team behind it.”
In line with this, the plant is designed to operate sustainably, economically, and with a minimal environmental footprint, so says an official statement.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to augment local animal feed production capacities.
“This isn’t just another plant. It’s designed to churn out 20 tonnes of specialised feed every hour, catering to the distinct nutritional needs of various livestock,” Fannah emphasised.
What sets this factory apart is its deployment of cutting-edge technology. From robotics that streamline packaging to innovative control systems, the facility is at the forefront of feed production.
“Our robots not only simplify packaging but also cut costs. This ensures uniformity and precision,” Fannah said.
“Our advanced control systems oversee every aspect of production. They ensure the consistency of our feed and allow real-time adjustments, ensuring top-notch quality.”
The larger goal of the plant, beyond immediate production, is to propel the livestock sector’s growth in Oman. It aims to cut down on imports, satisfying local and regional demands with homegrown, quality products.
“This not only supports the national economy but also strengthens Oman’s agricultural and livestock sectors.
“The animal feed plants stand central to Oman’s agriculture and livestock vision. They elevate productivity, enhance quality, and foster a self-sustained economy,” concluded Fannah.
