Today, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Oman Flour Mills Company, related to the company’s purchase of locally produced wheat from farmers in the 2022/2023 harvest season, at RO 500 per ton. The memorandum was signed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Nasser Al-Bakri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, and on the part of the Omani Flour Mills Company, Eng. Haitham bin Muhammad Al Fannah, CEO of the company. His Excellency the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Agriculture explained that signing the agreement to purchase farmers’ wheat products would motivate farmers to produce more, which would enhance the food security system in the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to developing the Omani “Al Bir” product as a brand to be marketed in Local and regional markets. For his part, Engineer Haitham bin Muhammad Al Fannah, CEO of the Oman Flour Mills Company, confirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is working to strengthen the food security system in the Sultanate of Oman through many legislative aspects that stimulate investment and possible implementation for investors and farmers. The CEO said for Oman Mills Company: The signing of this agreement to purchase the wheat product from farmers comes within the framework of the company’s keenness to enhance efforts to secure food security requirements and encourage farmers to continue cultivating wheat. It is worth noting that the area currently cultivated with wheat doubled from the previous season and exceeded 5 thousand feddans. It is expected that the productivity for the current season will exceed 5 thousand tons for agriculture and fisheries by providing 6 new harvesters in addition to the previously existing harvesters in the governorates.
